How to make your polished nails last longer

There is just something so soothing about painting your nails whether its a horrible week at work and you need to pamper yourself or you have plans that involve getting dolled up for like cocktails with the girls.

I love having my nails done but sometimes you have to do it your self but one wrong stroke or rushing can lead to disastrous results so here are a few tips I've picked up, along with a couple of my fave nail art pics.

Do not wash your hands before applying the polish as the natural oils from your skin stops the polish from adhering to your nails.

This goes hand in hand (get it) with my first point apply nail polish remover to you nails before you paint them.

Give you nails time to dry between each coat I know that this is a given but I can not stress it enough.

Apply the polish with thin coats this allows the nail to hold onto the product better.

Roll the bottle in the palm of your hand and do not shake it as it will create air bubbles that can transfer onto your nails and you'll end up with a monstrous manicure an nobody wants that.

Aimee Song (song of style) X Revolve

I have been following Aimee for around sixth months as she came up as one of my suggested videos on YouTube, If I remember correctly the first video I watched was 8 ways to wear a slip dress from her style by numbers series, as you know I am currently infatuated with anything that has the slip in it, just ask my Topshop order history.

On the 30th of April Aimee announced via Instagram that she was launching her own fashion line Song of Style and on the 13th of May her first collection released and I cant get over it I am constantly picking up my jaw off the floor because its too damn gorgeous here are some of my favorite pieces from the collection.

The Elsa midi dress

If only I lived in America where it would be sunny 85% of the time as I would be wearing this to every picnic, BBQ and 4th of July party EVER because it is such a classic piece with an a slight modern twist as the color is taupe rather than a traditional red , I would pair it with a cropped light wash denim jacket.

The Isla Midi Dress

I absolutely adore this tobacco color and the horn buttons which gives this dress a more vintage feel, this would look incredible paired with white cat eye sunglasses ,a pair of white heels or mules and some chunky statement gold earrings.

The Ada top & skirt

This is the outfit you wear when your on date number 3 so that he knows date number 4 is inevitable and that he needs to wife you up because you look like a candyfloss dream.

How to be more sustainable when it comes to fashion

Its definitely a hard pill to swallow when you realize that your beloved clothes are one of the major causes of the second most environmentally polluting industry behind oil, in the UK alone 350.000 tonnes of clothing went to land fills and honestly shook me to the core and made me realize that I needed to make some changes to how I shop for my wallets sake and the planet's.

Here is what I have been doing and here is how you can help too

Buy second hand from online store such as Depop, Ebay or Asos Market place

This stops the item from ending up in a landfill which can be very damaging as as the majority of garments are made from oil-based materials like polyester and oil does not decompose, and if we burned the material to nothing it will release harmful chemicals into the atmosphere.

Invest in better quality "basics"

By spending a little extra on the core foundation pieces of your wardrobe whether its a really well made faux leather jacket or white shirt which will hopefully last you years instead of months, by doing this it will more cost effective because you wont feel the need to constantly re-buy the same white shirt over and over again.

Buy locally

Therefore reducing your carbon foot print.

Splurge or Save

I spotted this showstopping number on Asos a couple of months back mainly because my most used search term on their website is 'velvet dress', I'm not entirely sure why I love velvet so much maybe its the way it feels or how it clings to my body in the right places or that when it gets cold waiting for a taxi I don't freeze quite as fast when I'm on a night out with the girls.

There is no doubt this dress is gorgeous and if I had that kind of disposable income to purchase said dress I would definitely hand over the £175 its costs but sadly at this current moment, I do not.

Bec And Bridge Pink Velvet Midi Dress

I refused to quit because I adored THAT dress so I scoured the internet and managed to find this beauty on NastyGal and £145 pounds cheaper to be exact as well as meeting all the criteria that made the Bec & Bridge dress perfect, rose-toned velvet, deep V neckline and a tie at the waist.

well done to me for not sending my bank card into shock or plaguing my mind with thoughts of buyers remorse.

Weird Items I found on ASOS

Asos is my favourite place to shop online if you don't, believe me, I am currently a level-three ASOS A-LISTER! so it's apparent that I like to browse on their website quite a bit and the idea hit me that I've noticed a lot of weird/quirky items on there recently.

Initially, when I saved this coat to my favourites I was thinking two things, the first being that it was a gorgeous slightly muted fuschia shade that would brighten the most drear of days and the second being that it would keep you snug as a bug too ,but on closer inspection, I realised that this is not your typical coat it is actually cropped on one side and what good is that in the height of winter.

The only thing that came to mind when I saw this was it looked like someone had taken a plain black swimsuit cut it in half and tried to stick it through a paper shredder then instantly regretted their decision and tried to sew it back together.

All I can picture is those toggles getting caught in the door on the way out of the house and I find the sleeves a little confusing, do they want it to be a t-shirt or a jumper?

Person of interest : Megan Ellaby

I found Megan Ellaby like most people through Instagram she reminds me of a modern Carly Simon with a flair for flares (get it), bold colors and cherry print.

I was lucky enough to attend the British Style Collective back in May at the Liverpool one arena I was sat in the second row right next to the stage and she was sat in front of me Megan was gracious, thought-provoking ,polite and stopped for photos,(not with me I'm too socially awkward and painstakingly shy) it was refreshing to see someone with a big following be so genuine
I enjoyed reading her blog post some things Ill never understand as it made me think of things that didn't make sense or add up that id had never really questioned before for example words that are sound the same but have different meanings such as,

Peace/piece

Peace – this is the absence of war, The word also refers more generally to a feeling of contentment, for example, “The woods were very peaceful.”
Piece – spelt this way, the word means a unit or portion of something, such as “a piece of cake”. To “say your piece” means to state your opinion about something, while “giving someone a piece of your mind” means to tell them – usually in anger – exactly what you think of a certain situation.

Stare/stair

These stairs are beautiful; feel free to stare.
These two identical-sounding words both derive from Old English words with Germanic origins.
Stare – the verb “to stare” refers to the act of gazing intently at something. As a noun, it refers to the look itself – for example “a long, cold stare”.
Stair – this refers to a single step, or one of a number of steps, used to connect two different levels, with variants including “staircase” (the complete set of steps), “stairway” (the steps and their surrounding walls), “stairwell” (the shaft occupied by the staircase), “downstairs” (the bottom level) and “upstairs” (the upper level).

RAT & BOA WISHLIST

I'm not going on a holiday for a while but I stumbled across rat and boa just over a year ago on Instagram they've had me hooked for a hot minute ever since

Here's what I'm loving from their site

Hand embroidered in a lilac sheen yarn covered with  iridescent sequins, this shimmering conversation starter will definitely catch everybody's attention you could layer this by paring it with a new a nude slip underneath for dinner at a restaurant or by wearing it over a bikini to laze on the beach either way it'll take you from day to night and make you forget about the £150 price tag.

Have you ever seen a more perfect dress your entire existence (yeah me neither) if there was ever a dress that would make me feel empowered, sexy and goddess like all at the same time this dress would be the one to take on the challenge and win ,it also doesn't hurt that it looks comfortable AF ,so book yourself a mini break and show off those pins.

Nothing screams luxury quite like a velvet jumpsuit so whether you're going to the club to get your Saturday night boogie on, or meeting a friend for dinner just remember this sexy little number would get you so many compliments like' "I love that jumpsuit where'd you get it" Circa Mean Girls 2004  (The 70s never looked this good before).

Love Beth XXX
